Disability Down Syndrome
Sophie is a 9-year-old girl with Down’s Syndrome. Sophie is sweet and kind and lives with her mother. Her mother is very receptive to the instructions we give her and every time we see her, we can see a difference in Sophie and in her relationship with her mother. For Sophie’s mom, we focused on teaching her about Down’s Syndrome, explaining that it is a problem in the chromosomes and cannot be cured. That this condition causes Sophie to be mentally slow; she is still capable of learning, but it will take her more time to learn new things and that she will need to be patient and repetitive with her.
