Bertha is the fifth-born in a family of six kids. She lost her father in August 2022 after a brief episode of high blood pressure. Following his death, the mother has been struggling to provide for Bertha and her 5 siblings as she depends on piecework. The family sometimes goes the whole day on an empty stomach when the mother doesn’t get piecework. In addition to other basic needs like food and clothes, Bertha also lacks school materials.

She dreams of becoming a teacher as she enjoys watching her tutors teach. Her favorite subjects are Chichewa and English. Bertha is a member of the Church of Christ and is in the choir. Her hobbies are reading, high jump, running, and listening to the radio. This well-behaved girl likes helping with chores like cooking, washing clothes, and cleaning plates. Her favorite color is white.
