Disability Cerebral Palsy
Melise is a 6-year-old girl with cerebral palsy. She cannot walk or sit and has poor head and neck control. Melise has hypertonic muscles in the back which causes her to arch backwards and her neck to be always extended or hyperextended. This also causes her arms to be flailed outward. Currently we are focusing on activities and positions that will break up the tone in her back and allow her body to relax so that she can bring her head forward and her arms reaching out in front of her. Once this occurs then we can focus on getting her to sitting positions.
