Jeffrey is the only child in his family. He lives with his grandmother, a widow with 5 children. His mother died in July 2016 while in surgery to remove a tumor in her stomach. He doesn't know his father because his mother got pregnant while she was at school; the family tried to trace the father to no avail. Subsequently, his granny took full responsibility for him, in addition to the five other children under her care. Life is very hard for Jeffrey and his granny, who relies on piecework to buy food. The boy is in a dire situation as he sometimes goes to bed without eating and wears worn-out clothes.

Jeffrey is a good kid at school and a well-mannered boy at home. He goes to a Baptist church, and in his free time, he likes to play soccer. His favorite food is Nsima with beans.
