James lost his mother when he was just 24 days old due to chronic heart disease. He is now under the care of his loving grandparents, Modesta and Harrison. The grandparents rely on subsistence farming as the source of income, which is seasonal, thus causing challenges in meeting the basic needs of their family which has 3 other kids under their care. The family lives in a very dilapidated house.
The caregivers have been struggling to provide specialized care for James, particularly formula milk. His father relies on piecework, and we observed he is responsible enough, trying his best to care for his child (in the hands of the grandparents), but his economic status isn’t allowing him to meet the needs.
