Hendrina is the fifth in a family of 6 children living with their mother. Her father died in 2022 due to illness. As a result, her mother fails to provide for the family as she relies on piecework. She is being raised in a Christian household and she is a member of Jali Community Church together with her family. Out of 6 children, it is only Hendrina and Hazwel, her 9-year-old brother, who attend school. Her other siblings dropped out of school due to lack of resources. Hendrina dreams of becoming a doctor. In school, she enjoys learning Chichewa and playing netball. Her favorite color is red and she enjoys eating rice with eggs.
