Stella lost her father when she was very young, forcing her to live with her grandmother, who must do piecework to find daily food despite being old and weak. Her mother can’t support the family as she also depends on piecework and moved far away from the family. Stella lacks educational support and sometimes gets chased from school for failing to pay school fees. At times, she eats once a day, and other times she doesn’t eat the whole day. Stella is in Standard 5 and dreams of becoming a medical doctor. In school, she enjoys learning Chichewa and English. Stella tries to remain cheerful, and loves helping with chores at home. She enjoys rice with chicken and her favorite color is blue. She is a member of Church of Christ where she sings Alto in the youth choir. She spends her free time studying, and chatting with her best friend, Judith. Her grandmother commends Stella for being reliable and hardworking.
